Yes. Role tuition rates are based on AGMA designated role classifications and are primarily divided into three categories: leading, featured, and supporting.

2023-24 Tuition Rates

LEADING ROLE, $255

FEATURED ROLE, $220

SUPPORTING ROLE, $170

Role tuition rates include rehearsals, musical direction and the final reading performance. This season we have increased the overall number of rehearsals for a reading and moved to a flexible rehearsal model. The number of rehearsals during a reading period time window varies by work and is determined by what is appropriate to the duration, cast size and difficulty of the repertoire. Not everyone is called to all rehearsals or all parts of rehearsals. The amount of rehearsals one is called to and time spent at rehearsal depends on role size. Generally between five and seven rehearsals take place per reading.

ORP is also looking for covers for our readings.

COVERS, $90

A cover prepares the role, is highly encouraged to attend any of the rehearsals to which the principal is called and may be asked to step in and sing if the principal is unavailable/sick, etc. A cover must be available on the final reading date.

Is there a cost to participate in readings?

You have the freedom to coach and fully prepare your role with whomever you would like to in advance of the first rehearsal (as is the usual protocol in the professional opera world) and this allows us to delegate more time and flexibility to the rehearsal process. The ORP Music Director is available for privately paid coaching as desired or you can prepare with your own coach. Individual role coachings are not included in the role tuition fee. It is the singer’s responsibility to fully prepare the role and be ready for detail-oriented work in rehearsals.

Can I coach my opera role with you?

Why should I participate in ORP?

ORP provides you the opportunity to prepare for an upcoming engagement, review a role you have already sung, polish a mainstay in your repertoire, complete a role as “prepared” on your resume, or try out something new in a safe and inclusive space. We also pride ourselves on making meaningful connections beyond the practice room. We love networking with other singers and building a sense of community!
