Opera Reading Project (ORP) was established in 2018 to provide financially accessible, professional-quality arts education opportunities for Minnesotans to engage in opera.

We offer both auditioned and non-auditioned, affordable, and integrative programs, ensuring aspiring Minnesota singers can access professional training, hone their craft, and connect with other opera artists and audiences.

Opera Readings

Repertoire for opera readings is selected from a wide variety of genres from Baroque to living composers. We hold auditions and make final repertoire selections based on casting suitability, singer availability and role interest. Once cast, it is the singer’s responsibility to individually prepare the role (notes, rhythms, translation and background character development) and be ready for detail-oriented work in rehearsals. Role polishing takes place during a two-week long group rehearsal period, and the reading concludes with a final concert-style sing-through of the opera for a public audience.
